How to design your website?

How to design your website?

So, where do you start to build a website? Every website starts with an idea, it can be a personal website to show off your personal life or the face of your business. There is a common saying “ find something you love to do, and you will never work a day in your life” . Every business starts with an idea and passion.

Creativity might not be your strongest point or the technical knowledge to start a website. You might be too busy managing sales or managing employees, so much work and details come with being a business owner. The project of having a website might be a new skill that you need to learn or something you don’t want to manage. In todays day, information is all over the place , some free and some with a cost. Who do you trust? Do they really align with your plan?

When starting a project we might ask two major questions.

  • Do you want to design and be part of every step and do it yourself?

  • Do you want to be hands off and give your ideas and deals and let someone complete the work?

Take this simple example of making a homemade soup.

  • Option 1

Make the soup from scratch by yourself. You go to the store, buy the ingredients, chop each item up and then make the soup. Everything needs to be unpacked and then disposed of. The cleaning and cooking will need to be done by yourself. Each step is done by you from the beginning to the end.

This example shows how a website is build by yourself or with an application like wordpress or any other builder site. All the coding and features have to be build by you or a third-party application. Each configuration has be planned by you and setup correctly. You have to maintain it and do updates for each application that you use. You can do it yourself or hire someone to help with this and they still leave you to do the other managing roles.

  • Option 2

Hire a service like BlueApron to up the process. They send you all the prepared ingredients so you don’t need to leave your home or prepare anything. This cuts down the process and travel time. Then, follow the recipe. Add the ingredient and do the cooking. The process is simplified with preparing and delivery but you still need to cook. Some might even have all of it don by another cook but that is just up to you.

This example shows how other website builders like Wordpress, WIX, or Shopify, give you the tools to setup your website. They have templates to pick that are prebuilt and ready to use. They do all the coding and the maintenance. Each step is designed to help you do less work and just concentrate on the creativity of your idea. You pay a monthly service just like you would with BlueApron but with more support to your website.

  • Option 3

Hire a food service to deliver the finished product directly to your door. Everything is done for you. You only need to see what is on the menu, plan your delivery time, and you have homemade soup ready with no cooking or cleaning to do.

This examples shows what a finished product is all about. The complete process done and managed by someone else. Our website is built on SquareSpace .
